Mayor de Blasio speaks at FDNY plaque dedication for fallen Deputy Chief

Along with Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio presided over the plaque dedication and street sign unveiling ceremony for Deputy Chief Michael J. Fahy, on Thursday, September 27, 2018. Two years ago to the day, Fahy responded to a call in a two story building in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx. The gas lines, however, were tampered with at this marijuana grow house and the building exploded. Fahy was killed when he was hit with flying debris. Two men, Julio Salcedo and Garivaldi Castillo, pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the crime.

“…to be there for a greater good. That is how Michael lived. Let’s all try and live as best we can, the way Michael did, and the way Michael would wish us to,” said de Blasio at the ceremony.

Following the plaque dedication ceremony where de Blasio spoke, a street was dedicated in honor of Chief Fahy, for his brave service to the Bronx community.
